I need to redo my kitchen and like maple cabinets in a medium stain. My kitchen is not very large -11′ x 16′ – has 9′ ceilings and opens to the family room. I’d like to use 42″ upper cabinets because I need all the storage I can get. My taste is pretty traditional – the rest of my house is sort of eclectic/French country so I need something in keeping with that.

Congratulations on your recent wedding! I’ve been reading your blog and browsing your website, so you are probably still on your honeymoon.
I love your designs, especially the kitchen with the KraftMaid Rutherford cabinets.
I’m hoping you can recommend a granite color for the kitchen I am planning with the KraftMaid Roxbury maple praline door. My kitchen will be expanded to 15′ by 11 by moving back an interior wall 30″ into the laundry room/garage storage area.
I have an L-shape layout with an extra leg that will be added perpendicular to the 15′ leg. There is a door between that leg and the new leg which will have a French-door refrigerator and a wet bar with built-in beverage and wine coolers.
I have attached the floor plan for it, and I’m hoping that you help us decide which is the better quality cabinet choice for our money. We plan to buy APC. I love KM’s style and its 1/2″ plywood sides and 3/4″ solid wood hanging rail. My husband thinks Diamond’s 3/8″ back and finish is better and stronger.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
