ABOUT ME…  (Yeah, Yeah, so I write about myself in the Third Person….)

Todd Whiddon “The Cabinet Guy” is…. well for lack of a better term a “Cabinet-preneur”

Both my parents were small business owners so I grew up with “business” all around me. I graduated from Kennesaw State University when I was 19 and started my first cabinet business that same year. That business now ranks in the top 10% of Sales for a Kitchen and Bath distributor in the country.  I have over 12 years of industry experience as successful high volume distributor/dealership Manager,  Cabinet Consultant, Installer, Designer, Trainer, Writer, Blogger… and people wonder why I like to travel so much!  My latest venture is the Cabinet Design Group.  A boutique Kitchen Design firm that specializes in High-End Cabinetry Designs in the Atlanta / Buckhead area.

I’m getting married September 6th 2008 to a wonderful gal named Elizabeth!  Not quite sure how I lucked out talking such a beautiful woman into marrying me… but we really enjoy working on remodeling projects together, cooking for each other, and tossing the nerf football around at Piedmont Park.

When I’m not at home or at the office you can probably find me either in the Control Room at Buckhead Church where I am a volunteer Video Director, The Appalachian Trail “which I have been slacking on and will be 152 before I finish the whole thing”, or Downtown Atlanta enjoying a new restuarant.

Cabinets are not something people buy on a regular basis, which means everyone needs to educate themselves before they make a cabinet purchase. You best bet is to hire a kitchen design proffesional, “In Atlanta of course this means a member of the Cabinet Design Group, but outside Atlanta I can recomend quality kitchen design professionals across the country” . This blog will be a great educational resource for everyone about to make one of the best investments possible, new cabinets! Cabinets are not like sheetrock or 2×4’s where you can just run out and buy more if you measure your walls wrong. Each manufacture constructs their cabinets differently and all too often what you have in your mind of what your cabinets are going to be like is NOT what you end up with if you have not done your homework!

    Hello,
Thank you for your blog! I am about to buy some kraft made cabnetts for my kitchen. I will be buying all wood upgrade for the two end cabnets and the cabnet for under the sink. My concern is am I being penny wise and pound foolish by not getting evrry cabnett all wood?
    thanks!

    Hey Sandy!

The only thing foolish would to be to buy Kraftmaid cabinets from someone other than The Cabinet Guy! You are doing exactly what I recommend to a lot of people to save money…just having the plywood option on any exposed side surfaces, “don’t forget about the sides of deep wall cabinets, ovens, and fridge legs as well”, so the color is more consistent as the kitchen ages. This is especially true with cherry wood or a painted finish.

If the All Plywood Construction fits into your budget, then it is a nice upgrade to have all wood construction so that when you market your home you can add value to it by having all wood cabinets. Structurally though there is not a real big difference and they will both last until it’s time to remodel the kitchen again!
